Artist Statement
“My studio has moved from an abandoned factory to an old
train station (Artist Transit) to my office at Kalmbach Advertising, and now to
a beautiful palm-lined street in the hippest heart of San
Francisco. No
other place do I feel more alive, free and at peace than in my studio. Visitors are always welcomed.”
Lewis Kalmbach has been painting all his life. Some of his mentors include Ann Slagle, Jan
Van Horn and his father, Francis Kalmbach.
After earning his degree at Rhodes
College, he briefly taught graphic
design before opening his advertising agency in 1985. He was a founding member of Artist Transit in
Shreveport, the creator of Artport
at the Shreveport Regional Airport, and has had numerous shows
across the country. He divides his time
between his homes in Shreveport,
and San Francisco.
“Yellow plays an important role in nearly every work I
create. Yellow smiles back at me.”
